The focus of this event was the global street child phenomena. We introduced some poems written about children and performed a play concerning street children in the world, specifically in Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Ghana, and Thailand. We set the scene as a conference of the former street children. It was our aim to introduce the success story of UNICEF’s involvement in such issues. We also did an auction of pictures, traditional fabrics, and paintings. The auction/fundraising was successful due to the warm supports of two talented students who are majoring in arts and theatre at Ohio University and Yale University.

UNICEF-OU chapter 2008-2009 had a first event on November 8th, 2008. It was held in Alden Library 2 floor, Rollins Room from 6:00-8:30pm. We showed the movie ”Blood Diamonds” (2006) and introduced the issue of child soldiers in Serra Leone and in general. We also talked about our aim.
Although it was a small event, this led to an increase in the number of our members. We cannot believe that we started from 3 members and now we have a whole unicef family…
